Of course, you could just play the midi file and use audacity to record it - alternatively you could use Greenfoot to play the MIDI file directly (see the support classes).
Technically "convert" isn't really the right word when talking about MIDI -> wav/mp3, "render" is probably closer to the truth (since MIDI files don't actually contain sounds!)
