I have an idea. How about having the option to turn black the code editor background so as to keep our soul calm and our eyes calmer?

Make editor black
This is pretty late, but you can change it yourself.
Open the file Greenfoot (where you installed it) > lib > moe.defs (that's a text file)
At the bottom, the colors for each type of code and the background are defined. You can adjust that to your needs.
