Usually the 'x's show up when the image cannot be rendered (either the source was unavailable or there was a problem with the coding of the link or the page did not finish its rendering). However, those images you mentioned have in the past and still do show up for me. Maybe the page did not properly complete its rendering. Try it again. Or, maybe you are blocking some page content that prevents the rendering of the images.

Usually the cause of an X is that someone puts in the URL to the website on which the image is instead of the URL to the image itself. In this particular case, I don't see X. I see the three images in the thread:
