Google Chrome (one of the most used browsers) has removed NPAPI plugin support as of version 42. There is a still a flag to temporarily enable it, however in version 45 they will be completely removing NPAPI plugin support. How does this affect you? Well Java applets will not run in Chrome version 42 or higher, because Java uses NPAPI. If Oracle can push an update to support the new PPAPI (Pepper API), then this won't be a problem. However I seriously doubt that it will happen. So, that means once Google releases v45 of Chrome, it will be impossible to utilize Greenfoot.org to view other's scenarios, in the most used browser. This also affects the open source Chromium project, so that means any browser utilizing the Chromium open source project will not support NPAPI, this includes the various Chrome forks, and Opera v29 or higher. So what does this mean for the Java community and the Greenfoot.org community? Will there be a workaround? Will there be official update from Oracle? What do you guys think?
