I do not think it is that easy to cheat: the form and the majority of the code would all stay the same.

But that would still involve no need for source

Requiring the source would help to keep people honest; and it would also help in catching those that do cheat.

Well I believe that people should be honest anyway, and not have to be scared into honesty. If they cheat they will be the ones who have to live with that on their conscious, not anyone else. Over all does it really matter? We aren't affected other than some small contest. But they will have to live with the fact that they never *really* won.

The main idea behind releasing code is to help others become better programmers. By the nature of this competition, it would be fun for people to see how others used code to solve the challenges. For example, somebody might learn more about doing ai from the sports scenarios.

Yes, but if someone wants to learn from it, all they have to do is ask the person who made the program would open source. I just don't believe that people should be forced to open source

Like you said, it is just a small contest. If people do not want to show the code, they do not have to compete.

I want as many people to want to enter as possible. All someone have to do is ask for the code, and I am sure that most people would give it. Why would we have to force the participants to have opened source?

#
So far, we have several compelling reasons for requiring source to be open and none for allowing closed source.

Well, if will make someone happy, you now have to open source.

I started a scenario two days ago. It is a platformer. You can shoot shots to destroy oncoming platforms that could otherwise knock you off of the one you are on. You have to reach a certain object as often as possible within a specified amount of time. For the first few times you do reach the objects, the maximum width of the platforms decrease. Would that be considered a valid scenario for the intermediate challenge?

Are there multiple levels and an ending?

Well, in a sense. The platforms get skinnier the more you toll the bell (which could be considered levels). And after three minutes, your time is up (which could be considered an ending).
