If you struggle with this then maybe coding isn't for you... Hopefully someone else can explain it better than me..

I'm just going to take a guess and say get Windows x86. Duta is right though, that is really basic knowledge. It might be a fluke that you just didn't know, but I have a feeling that coding isn't going to be the thing for you =/. If you do get going at coding though, congrats!

Hey guys, don't be all demotivational like that! Everybody has to start somewhere, and even if that somewhere is not knowing which JDK to download or how to get it working, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be coding. The fact that he is interested in coding should be plenty enough to decide whether or not he should continue. That being said, Clueless do you know what operating system you are using?

Determine whether you have 32 or 64 bit Windows (see this link). If you have 32-bit Windows, download the file named "jdk-7u3-windows-i586.exe" (i586 is the 32-bit Intel architecture). If you have 64-bit Windows, download the file named "jdk-7u3-windows-x64.exe" (the x64 architecture is 64-bit as the name suggests).

@Builderboy2005 I feel the same, its just when its someone 'thinks' they have windows it makes me wonder... I'm not saying he definitely won't be good at it, I'm just suggesting that if computers aren't your strong point, computer programming may not be either

@clueless If you're still unsure I would say download the jdk-7u3-windows-i586.exe, since even if you have 64-bit system it will still run. @Builderboy2005 I'm same as Duta, I definitely think that if he's interested he should take a shot at coding! I wish him the best of luck with it, I'm just skeptical :D. Once again, if he is able to get started, I hope that he will make really good progress and will learn to be a great coder! PS: My motivational skills suck, so anything I say will probably be demotivating in some way :D.
