every time i try to play a sound a terminal window pops up telling me it cant find the sound file

Make sure the name of the file is correct accounting for case-sensitivity (double-check with properties of the file). Make sure the file is located in the path given the calling code (the default directory is in the 'sounds' folder inside the folder of that scenario ('greenfoot/scenarios/< project name >/sounds/< sound file name >' would be called simply with '< sound file name >').
