Can't create objects and world not visible

I am following the book and now I need to create a new wombat object but I don't get that option when right clicking. Also, I don't see a grid on the world. I am using Greenfoot 2.2.1 for Mac OS X. This is what I see.

You need to compile the classes by clicking the "Compile" button.
