Problem with running greenfoot

Hey, I need greenfoot for a project in school and my teacher gave me an USB stick which contains pretty much all the programs I need. Greenfoot however is not working the way it is supposed to. The version on the stick is 2.0.4 and I tried running it, however the "startup" window showed up and nothing happened for about 5 minutes apart from the little light crossing from side to side. I assumed that maybe some sort of installation was going on and let it sit there. Greenfoot started, but I wasn't capable of doing anything. The window wouldn't let me click anything or do something. I then proceeded to downloading both the standard version of greenfoot as well as the USB version again, because I thought the problem was caused by the old version. Still the same problem occurs. I went ahead and reinstalled java as well as greenfoot multiple times and tried running in compatibility mode (I'm on windows 10). Nothing worked so far. I noticed in task manager that there is the "windows no response manager" (something like that) popped up in regular intervals of 3-5 seconds. It's basically the Programm that tells you that another one isn't responding. This happens as soon as is start greenfoot.exe I hope that someone can help me. Greetings

It shouldn't take such a long time, but when you say that it "started", you mean the main window showed? In that case: Is it perhaps that you couldn't do "anything" because you didn't have a scenario open? Could you choose 'New...' or 'Open...' from the 'Scenario' menu for example?

(And by the way, there was never a Greenfoot version 2.0.4. I hope you meant 3.0.4).

The main window opened and I tried to open a new scenario, the window froze and was really laggy before as well. I wasn't able to get even into the main window since then. I'm not quite sure which version it is, i haven't been on my pc since yesterday but I will update that later today. It seems like the Programm has no response for a split second then works again just to start not responding again which explains that I need to close it over the " process" tab in task manager. EDIT: the old version on the stick is 2.4.2

FFS I have just fixed my problem: Avast Antivirus was causing the problem, I figured it out while I was recording a video to demsontrate my problem and while I was trying to show, that no programms are running I realzied AVAST might be the problem! So in short for anyone who comes across this problem: Try deactivating your antivirus software!
