.Microphone not working for Stickman

In chapter three of Greenfoot Java , I am trying to get stickman to move using the microphone method and I am getting an error stating that the microphone can not be found . I am using windows 8.1 on an HP laptop. Any suggestions will be very helpful. I know I have a microphone because I am able to create sound files with the recorder in greenfoot.

If you can record sound using the sound recorder in Greenfoot then you should also be able to use the microphone level functionality, as they work in the same way. What exactly is the error message that you're getting? Greenfoot doesn't produce any error message that says the microphone can not be found.

Thank you for responding . The exact error is "Couldn't get mic level: line unavailable"

That implies that something else might be using the microphone. Perhaps you still have the sound recorder open? Or another application on your computer is also using the microphone?
