Does anyone think it would be a better option to add a 3d library (and support?) to Greenfoot rather than having to go into Alice since it mainly seems to be for animation programming?

Well then, sure. But of course that's not really what Greenfoot is for. Of course there is the effort by GreenHouse here.
There are other ways of programing 3d. I recommend jmonkey and you can also program using straight opengl if you would like.
Oh ok, it is nice to see the effort being put in by greenhouse. Never knew they were doing that. But are they planning on releasing an official 3D greenfoot? I know you can use jmonkey if you are actually going into the 3D stuff. But if you want something that is more of a teaching tool(which greenfoot is supposed to be (I realize that I forgot to mention that, sorry)) for 3D game development, wouldn't a 3D greenfoot be better?
