This is a pity, because this always reminds my students that they are "only" beginners. This is depressing and demotivating. That's why they didn't like Greenfoot anymore after a short time (a month or so). They find it childish although they are just beginners. This is a pity, because Greenfoot is really powerful and I like it VERY, VERY much!
In my opinion, it wouldn't complicate programming for the stundents if there was an option to start the game without explicitly clicking the "Run" button in the export dialog and to leave the unneccessary frame. Even a fullscreen mode would be great.
Greenfoot can be more than just a first step for beginners and just for the first weeks! But it is demotivating to recognize that you will never get a rudimentary professional looking game - however and how much you push yourself.
@biermi
HI, I really agree with your idea of "Greenfoot is really powerful and I like it VERY, VERY much!"
I'm a college student from China, and more than one year ago, I became a fan of Greenfoot.
Time passes and my skill in java became better and better. I realized that Greenfoot is designed for "Beginners", that means the aim of Greenfoot team is not let children(or java begginers like me at that time) to feel the fun of program, not let them produce games that really "playable".
But as a teacher, your java skill is much more better of your students. So it's your turn to show them the real power of Greenfoot or Java also. As We Greenfoot fans who are not really "Beginnners" (like you and me), wo could notice that Greenfoot is open source.
For your quistion, you may have a look at this Topic:

Also, @davmac @mik
I noticed that Greenfoot is somehow based on BlueJ. And BlueJ allows fans to write extensions for itself. I just wonder could we Greenfoot fans do the same thing for Greenfoot? Or is there any way to bring the Greenfoot Projects to other IDEs? Maybe not Eclipse, then what about BlueJ? Since they have some deeply relationship. Would that be possible?
It seems that you are busy on the new version of Greenfoot, I hope you may take a consider of this.
@Upupzealot:
Thanks for your reply. Well, you are right, of course. As it is open source, we are able to change some things, but it is impossible for beginners or at least inconvenient even for advanced learners. So, in this sense, something like a checkbox in the export dialog would be great.
And yes, an export to BlueJ would be great! We switch to BlueJ after some months.
By the way, is there any "wishlist" for the current development?
@Upupzealot:
So, you really found a solution as I saw in the other post you mentioned above! Great! Would you be so kind to send me the file export.zip ? My E-Mail is
biermi (at) aol (dot) com
Thanks in advance!
What about a small documentation on how to compile Greenfoot in eclipse and what changes to the code are needed?
@biermi
The email was sended to you. And you can ask for help by email if you have any question in using it.(It's over 12 o'clock here and I have to go bed, but I would check my email every day)
Again I want to @davmac @nccb @mik @GreenfootTeam
I think there should be some way to write extensions for Greenfoot, Just like BlueJ did.
Noticed that there is a "extension" folder in Greenfoot, would that be possible soon? Or is what we want already exists? Or, GreenfootTeam don't like to add this function for some reason?
