When I click on Greenfoot to open it up I receive a dialog box: Exactly this "The project is read-only. You will not be able to create object or execute methods. Either the access rights of the project directory are set as 'read only' for you, or the whole file system is not writable (is it a CD?). To fully use this project, you must ensure that it is on a writable file system (usually your hard disk), and that you have write permission in the project directory and each file within it. This can often be accomplished by choosing "save as" from the Project menu after closing this dialog. " And when i close the dialog box, I assume what would be a project opens right away and there is no Project menu. The tabs at the top area just Scenario, Edit, Controls, and Help. I have tried saving the project or whatever it is as a copy, as there is no save as option, but it says I am unable to do so. The first time I started the application it gave me the menu to choose to open a project or create a new one, but I clicked the tutorial link instead. now when I go to start it up again it skips that and goes directly to the above.

If I understand correctly, (and I think I do) you should be able to choose "New scenario" from the Greenfoot window and this will solve your problem. It is showing an empty project because you haven't specified a project for it to open.

It's probably trying to open the projects from the program files directory which is protected under UAC on Vista and above - if you want to open the sample projects copy them from the greenfoot folder in program files to your user home directory (my documents) and you can open them from there. Assuming you're using Windows ;)

You need to compile them. Click the "compile" button.
