Raycasting

This is an example of raycasting, a psuedo-3D technique used in some early games such as Wolfenstein 3D.

Use the left and right keys to spin your view. Use the WASD keys to move around the grid (but note: you don't move in the direction you're facing in this example!). The minimap in the top left shows your position as the white dot, so you can see how the 3D view corresponds to the map.

I'm reading "Masters of Doom" right now. I imagine this was much easier for you to do than it was for John Carmack. It's a very good read for any aspiring game programmers.
