Langton Loops

An improvement on John Von Neumann's 29-state self-reproducing cellular automata, Chris Langton's "Langton
Loop" uses only 8-states (although it sacrifices universal computation). To create self-replication, cells have
219 neighborhood rules (with rule similarity around the four cardinal directions).

See - C.G.Langton. "Self-reproduction in cellular automata." Physica D, Vol. 10, pages 135-144, 1984.
