Enter the competition and win great prizes at JavaOne 2007, San Francisco

Check out Greenfoot Invent a scenario Implement it Submit to MyGame Rate some entries Win!
Have a look at Greenfoot, available from greenfoot.org. You can see a demo at the Greenfoot booth in the Pavilion, and/or have a look at the tutorial on the web site. Looking at some existing scenarios should give you plenty of ideas for your own. Invent your own game, simulation, or other program. You can start with our provided base scenarios if you like. Implement your idea. The API, as well as demo code, is available via the Help menu in Greenfoot, and from the Greenfoot web site. We also run Greenfoot Programming Tips sessions regularly at the booth. To enter the competition, you have to submit your program to the MyGame web site. Use the Export function in Greenfoot for this. Whether you submit your own entry or not, everyone has a vote. Register on MyGame: mygame.java.sun.com and rate the current entries. (We consider it somewhat bad style to rate your own - we know you love yours...) Great prizes are to be won. Some for early entries, some for just voting, and the big prizes for the best submissions at the end - see below.

Win a SunSPOT

The short story is: Write and submit a Greenfoot game, and you can win one of three SunSPOT kits (each worth $550, see http://www.sunspotworld.com/).

How to enter

Find out what Greenfoot scenarios are, and then write your own. To write a scenario, you can either start with one of the base scenarios provided on our web site (greenfoot.org) or make one from scratch yourself. (Making your own has a better chance to score points for originality!)

To write a scenario, you need to install Greenfoot 1.2.1, available from greenfoot.org. Writing a scenario is fairly easy. Most Java programmers can make a simple one in half an hour.

Submitted entries can be rated by the general public. You can also rate other submissions.

Or: Win just by voting

Alternatively, you can win a t-shirt, just by registering on the myGame web site at mygame.java.sun.com and rating some of the current submissions.

Some tips

There are various ways you can find out more about Greenfoot programming:

  • Listen to one of our regular Greenfoot Programming Tips talk (see our booth for times).
  • Have a look at some of the demo scenarios at greenfoot.org.
  • Have a look at the Greenfoot API and/or the Greenfoot tutorial.

End-of-round prizes

There are various prize draws. Four times, we will draw End-of-round Prizes and once, at the end, the Grand Prize.

The End-of-round prizes are awarded for the best new entry over the last half-day, and for a random community member (any person with an account created on MyGame). Each End-of-round prize is a t-shirt. They will be drawn at the following times:

Tue, 4 pm, Wed, 1:30 pm and 4 pm, Thu, 1:30 pm

Winners have to be present at the booth.

The Grand Final Prize

The Grand Final Prize will be awarded on Thursday, May 10, at 4 pm. Entries close at 3:30 pm. Several entries will win. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, including the developers of Greenfoot.

Winners will be chosen from the submissions on the MyGame site. Decisions will be made based on the popular ranking on MyGame, originality, quality, and general coolness.

Prizes include SunSPOT development kits, coffee mugs, and t-shirts. Participants must be present to take part in the final.
